Large Engine Oils, Ship Oils or Marine Lubricants
Marine oils, also known as marine lubricants or ship oils, are specialized oils used in various machinery and equipment on ships and vessels operating at sea. These oils are designed to withstand the harsh conditions of marine environments and provide lubrication, corrosion protection, and heat dissipation for engines, gears, hydraulic systems, and other machinery onboard ships.
There are several different categories and types of marine oils, each formulated for specific applications and operating conditions. The main categories of marine oils include:
- Cylinder oil – Marine 2-stroke engines, slow-speed crosshead engines running on low to high sulfur content (0.1% to 3.5%) fuels (Heavy Fuel Oil or Residual Fuel Oil).
- Systems oil – Marine 2-stroke engines, crankcase lubricants for slow-speed 2-stroke crosshead diesel engines running on high sulfur fuels.
- Marine 4-stroke trunk piston medium-speed engine oils, single lubricant for engines running on low to high sulfur content (0.1% to 3.5%) fuels (Heavy Fuel Oil or Residual Fuel Oil).
- Marine 4-stroke high-speed engine oils, lubricants for smaller engines requiring API CF, CF-4, CH-4, or CI-4 specification.
- Gas turbine oils optimized for marine gas turbines with enhanced water separation properties.
- Steam turbine oils, optimized for marine steam turbines.
- Gear oils, synthetic or conventional oils with enhanced EP properties and marine use optimization.
- Hydraulic fluids, synthetic or conventional anti-wear fluids formulated for marine use.
- Hydraulic fluids, fire-resistant (non-hydrocarbon based) fluids for off-shore drilling rigs or flammable cargo haulers.
- Compressor oils, synthetic or conventional ash-less fluids formulated for marine use.
- Stern tube and propeller shaft oils, synthetic or conventional lubricant especially designed to function in presence of some water.
